Mumbai: Mumbai is on high alert after a series of explosions rocked India's commercial capital on the birthday of Mohammad Ajmal Amir Qasab the Pakistani Islamic terrorist who was involved in the 2008 Mumbai attacks.
Qasab was given the death penalty which was upheld by the Bombay High Court in February.
He was the only Pakistani terrorist caught alive during the November 26, 2008 attack on Mumbai.
At least eight people have been killed and 70 others injured in three bomb blasts in the crowded Dadar, Opera House and Zaveri Bazar areas.
Union Home Ministry confirmed that the blasts are terror strikes and added that Improvised Explosive Devices were used.
The blasts went off within minutes of each other.
Security alerts have been issued in Delhi after the blasts in Mumbai.
One blast took place in Dadar in central Mumbai and the other two in Zaveri Bazar and the Opera House in south Mumbai.
Point to be noted here is that all three are busy commercial and residential areas.
The first blast took place in south Mumbai's Zaveri Bazaar, near the famous Mumbadevi temple, in which some people were injured, said Mumbai Police spokesperson Nisar Tamboli.
The second explosion was reported in a taxi in Dadar area, he said. "We are verifying the nature of explosions. At this moment I cannot say anything more than this," Tamboli said.
